Friday night the Tesoro Titans took on the Bishop Alemany Warriors in round 2 of the CIF playoffs at Bishop Alemany high school. The Warriors started the game with a quick drive for a touchdown in the first quarter but would be tied at 7 quickly as Senior Defensive End Ethan Hurst scooped up a fumble and recovered it all the way for a touchdown to put the Titans on the scoreboard. Alemany scored on their next drive to make the score 14-7, but, the Titans fought back and tied the game up at 14 with a 54 yard touchdown run from Senior DB/WR Kyle Schaefers (2 carries, 57 yards, 1 TD, 1 rec, 5 rec yards) as he outran defenders down the field for the score. The Titan’s offense got on the board again before the half as Senior QB Sean Lindgren (232 yards, 2 TDs) found Senior WR Logan Sturm (2 rec, 20 yards, 1 TD) for a 10-yard touchdown to make the score at half 27-21. The Warriors scored two long touchdowns to extend their lead late. After a late 8-yard touchdown from Sean Lindgren to Senior WR/DB Matt Harrington (1 rec, 8 yards, 1 TD), the score settled at 47-28 which would be the final score. The Titans also enjoyed standout performances from Seniors Zach Wran (15 carries, 105 yards, 4 rec, 26 rec yards) and Justin Schafer (9 rec, 155 yards, 2 carries, 21 rush yards). With the season coming to a close, Tesoro has enjoyed a 9-win season and won every game at Titan Stadium this year. Defensively Seniors Cooper Gallaway and Ethan Hurst both broke the single season sack record making them the most lethal end duo in Titan history along with interior lineman Mike Hawks and Caleb Arellano. Senior Linebackers Jackson Howsmon, Kade McGraw, and
Clayton Beale shut down the run all year as Howsmon was always around the ball and McGraw turned in one of the plays of the year with his pick 6 against Cathedral. The Senior defensive backs Kyle Schaefers, Brett King, Nick Leivici, Matt Harrington, Evan McGowan, and Matt Frey were locking receivers down all year and produced 15 interceptions. On special teams, Senior Kicker Jacob Devine was 25-31 on PATs along with being 4-5 in Field goal attempts and was helped by Senior DB John Bastian at holder who made possibly play of the year with his scrambling touchdown pass against San Juan Hills. Offensively, Senior QB Sean Lindgren threw for 2,329 yards and 27 passing touchdowns and added 4 rushing touchdowns to his touchdown total over the course of the season. On the ground Senior RB Zach Wran rushed for 1321 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns along with 39 catches for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air, making for one of the best seasons for a Titan running back of all time. To aid the rushing game Senior FB Colin Benade opened up holes for the tailback play after play and notched 25 carries for 125 yards and 1 touchdown along with 2 catches for 16 yards and a receiving touchdown. Ramsey Barazin offered a dynamic playmaker in his time on the field as he accumulated 242 yards on 41 carries along with 5 catches for 62 yards and a kickoff return touchdown. In the receiving game, Senior Justin Schafer broke the career receptions record with 143 catches for 1940 yards and tied the career record for 20 touchdowns. The passing game was aided by the group of Senior receivers including Caeden King (11 rec, 140 yards, 3 TDs), Logan Sturm (16 rec, 244 yards, 2 TDs), and Matt Harrington (119 yards, 2 TDs). The offensive line for the Titans opened up the running game along with keeping the QB clean as Seniors Justin Williams, Ethan Contreras, Broc Arnold, and Matt Onopa battled it out in the trenches for Tesoro. Overall, all of the Seniors will be missed at Tesoro as they have produced exciting games and made spectacular plays at Titan Stadium. However, the younger Titans will take over the reins next year and continue the success of Tesoro football.
